Introduction

The Geostationary Lightning Mapper is an instrument on the GOES-16 and GOES-17 geostationary satellites. The GLM is a high-speed camera, tuned to a narrow bandwidth to detect lightning events.

The ncglm library is a C/Fortran library to assist researchers using these data.

Events

Every event detected is listed in the Events.

Use glm_read_event_arrays() to read the event data into arrays.

Use glm_read_event_structs() to read the event data into an array of struct.

Groups

When events happen at adjacent pixels or times, they are grouped togehter into a Group.

Use glm_read_group_arrays() to read group data into arrays.

Use glm_read_group_structs() to read the group data into an array of struct.

Flashes

Groups of sufficient size and duration are categorized as Flashes.

Use glm_read_flash_arrays() to read group data into arrays.

Use glm_read_flash_structs() to read the flash data into an array of struct.
